General description of a Rottweiler

Appearance:
Medium to large breed, black and tan in colour, short coat, compact in built with a broad chest, dark brown eyes. Broad head, round and of medium length. When walking the project confidence and power.

Temperament:
They are very confident and protective dogs. They become very protective of their family and can become aggressive towards strangers. Very alert and may attack without warning. As with other dogs, it is important to socialise and train them from a young age otherwise they could become very dangerous when older. Also it is recommended to start obedience training from a young age since Rottweilers are generally a dominant breed and can become stubborn if not disciplined correctly.

Grooming and caring:
Occasional brushing of their coats to keep its shine. Regular bathing with a dog shampoo, cleaning of their ears with baby oil is also recommended. Since they are a working breed, these dogs need regular exercise. Walking, swimming, running and jumping are all exercises best suited to keep the dog in shape and healthy. Lack of exercise can lead to a behaviour problem such as boredom and can lead to the dog being overweight. Rottweilers tend to put on weight easily so do not over feed them. Associated diseases related to being over weight are hip dyslasia, elbow dysplasia, heart diseases, breathing problems.
